The Aji Charapita is also called wild Peruvian pepper. It is a very small but definitely spicy pepper, comparable in spiciness to a rawit pepper. The small peppers have a powerful, fruity and fresh sour taste. A well-known side dish with the Charapita is criolla, a mixture of red onion, lemon juice, salt water, cilantro and crushed Aji Charapita. They are also used as peppercorns in cooking.
In South America, a chili pepper is a standard addition to a dish. Many well-known Aji chilies have their origins in South America, and these are known for their fruity and spicy flavor, including this Aji Charapita.
This is a Jumbo variety and slightly coarser/larger, as shown in the photo. And red in color instead of yellow, which we have grown in previous years.
